With the temperatures low and the wind bitter, my lips are rebelling. Overnight it seems, they began cracking and peeling. Regular lipstick ain’t gonna cut it anymore. I need a product that delivers pigment and protection; shine and smoothness.
That’s where the Clinique Chubby Stick and the Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick come in. These products claim to moisturize as well as color the lips. In Bougie vs. Broke, I compare two similar products at different price points. In this edition, the Clinique Chubby Stick is the bougie lip crayon, Neutrogena the broke.
Clinique Chubby Stick Moisturizing Lip Colour
The Clinique Chubby Stick comes in sixteen shades and a tier of intensities (regular, baby and intense). The primary ingredients are mango and shea butter, which deliver a nice sheen. This product scored nearly five stars among thousands of Sephora customers.
The Clinique website claims their lip balm requires no mirror to apply, as it’s “mistake-proof.” They’re kinda right. The initial application is a breeze. But when the Chubby Stick (finally) fades, it does so patchily. It’s a minor complaint, but there it is. The Clinique Chubby Stick has staying power, though. Reapplications are few and far between.
Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick
The Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick comes in fifteen shades and two intensities: a “sheer and shimmery” and “bold and creamy” finishes. This lip product also contains mango and shea butters. But Neutrogena goes on to make a much bigger claim:
Imagine a color stick so effective it instantly moisturizes your lips and lasts for hours, all while continuously conditioning them so they’re softer and smoother in just three days, even when bare.
Neutrogena isn’t blowing smoke. And the consumers know it, giving the MoisureSmooth Color Stick a 4.7/5 star rating on the Neutrogena website.
And The Winner Is…
The Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick, hands down.
There is no discernible reason for the Clinique Chubby Stick to be so much more expensive. Both products deliver beautiful colors in satisfying intensities and high shine. Both products provides much-needed moisture to my parched lips. But the Clinique Chubby Stick does so only temporarily, the Neutrogena MoistureSmooth Color Stick truly does make my lips softer and smoother, even when bare.
The price difference makes even less sense when that tidbit is taken into account.
